I recently sat down with Rodney Slane, owner of Sauced on Dickson Street in Fayetteville. We had a great conversation followed by a delicious lunch. Rodney is a trained chef who has always loved having friends over for backyard BBQ’s. Last October, he expanded his passion for barbecue and savory smoked meats when he opened Sauced. Since then, Sauced has become a neighborhood favorite.

Sauced serves the finest smoked meats, barbecue, craft brews, as well as an array of homemade comfort foods The wood used to smoke their meats is handpicked and dried to Rodney’s strict specifications. Sauced uses a combination of red oak and hickory. The red oak produces a medium to heavy smoke and a long burn, while hickory adds a sweet yet strong flavor. The pairing of both woods brings a distinctly rich flavor to the meat. It’s hard to describe. It’s just something you need to taste for yourself!

Rodney believes in letting the meat speak for itself. He stands by the philosophy that if the meat can be good enough without using a sauce, they have a winner.

I Got SAUCED!

During my visit to Sauced, I ordered the sliced brisket sandwich topped off with a sweet molasses sauce that was sweetened with mustard and chipotle pepper. I also had a side of creamy macaroni and cheese. Though I was full, I somehow managed to make room for a side of their full size chicken wings. The wings were perfectly seasoned and crispy and served with a side of buffalo vinegar based hot sauce.

Everything Sauced serves is made in-house, including the sauces, coleslaw, beans, mac and cheese and wings. What makes them unique from other barbecue restaurants is their premium products, prime meats, special recipe sausage, and of course, their sauces. If you’re looking for the best BBQ in town, head over to Sauced. Make sure you tell them Eric sent you!
